FCRA Registration is mandatory for any NGO, trust, society, or non-profit company in India that wishes to receive foreign contributions or donations. It ensures that foreign funds are used legally and for the intended developmental, cultural, economic, or educational purposes.

The registration is governed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010.

Types of FCRA Registration

FCRA Permanent Registration

  • For organizations with at least 3 years of existence and proven track record of activities.
  • Must have spent a minimum of ₹15 lakh in the last 3 years towards its core activities.

FCRA Prior Permission

  • For newly registered NGOs wishing to receive funds from a specific donor for a specific purpose.
  • Must specify donor, amount, and intended use of funds.

The registration is governed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010

  • Must not engage in activities against national interest

  • Cannot transfer foreign funds to unregistered NGOs

  • Maintain proper books of accounts for foreign funds

  • File annual return (Form FC-4) with MHA

  • Maintain FCRA account only at SBI, NDMB, Delhi (as per 2020 amendment)

FCRA Registration is valid for 5 years.

Must apply for Renewal at least 6 months before expiry.
